ABOUT COLORADO FASHION WEEK (CFW aka COFW):

+ COLORADO FASHION WEEK (CFW) was created in September 2011 by Justice Kwesi Kwarteng, BFA, MFA, as a Business of Fashion Venture Studio dedicated to positioning COLORADO as the emerging Fashion Capital of the Rocky Mountain West.

OUR MISSION:

+ To build an economically sustainable and well respected Global Fashion Industry for the great State of Colorado.

OUR VISION:

+ To position Colorado as the emerging Fashion Capital of the Rocky Mountain West Region.

OUR PURPOSE:

+ To elevate Colorado’s presence in the global Fashion and Creative Economies.

CFW AS A VENTURE STUDIO:

+ As a Venture Studio, CFW is designed to solve uncomfortable Business Problems through Entrepreneurship and so having noticed from our research and development efforts from 2008-2011 that COLORADO had one of the most educated workforces, with over 50% of all creative artists holding a Bachelor’s Degree, we set out to provide a solution by creating a Fashion Week, as our Go-to-Market Strategy.

COLORADO AS ONE OF THE MOST ENTREPRENEURIALLY FRIENDLY PLACES IN THE COUNTRY:

+ COLORADO being a global leader in the Creative Arts and Entrepreneurship from our Research and Development studies only enboldened our vision as a Venture Studio. This data led us to select the iconic Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA) as our inaugural home during our 2011 official launch with the bulk of our Runway Presentations being staged in the lobby of the Buell Theatre and the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.

THE ENORMOUS ECONOMIC AND BUSINESS VALUE OF THE FASHION INDUSTRY IN UNITED STATES:

+ The business value of Fashion Industry of the United States is in the multi-billions but this entire economic value was primarily concentrated on the east and west coasts of the Country. To attract some of this enormous economic, we realized COLORADO was going to have to build her very own Fashion Industry from scratch.

USING CFW TO SPARK COMPETITIVE FIRE, LOCALLY AND REGIONALLY:

+ We knew from the onset that building a highly respected and globally revered Fashion Industry from the ground up was going to require an all hands on deck approach. As a result, we discerned the fastest and best way to get others to act and participate was to show them what is possible by staging a traditional ‘Fashion Week’ powered by Live Runway Show Presentations as a our first five year plan and business strategy.

+ Low and behold, within our first four years into our vision, we noticed other ‘Fashion Weeks’ and more Fashion Shows springing up in various Cities, Towns and Counties across COLORADO. A primary example is a popular Denver based Hair Show Series immediately rebranding into a ‘Fashion Weekend’ for a few years before eventually rebranding into a full on Fashion Week years later.

+ With our Strategic Business Objective achieved, we began to shift our focus away from our initial Go-to-Market Strategy of Live Runway Presentations as a Venture Studio by staging our last In-Person Runway Show in 2014 at the beautiful Four Seasons Hotel Denver.

FOCUSING ONN OUR ORIGINAL ORGANZATIONAL GOAL:

+ Having set an original Goal ‘To Recruit, Retain and Launch the Careers of the Business of Fashion’s next-gen best Talent’, as a Venture Studio, we felt the next right move after achieving the Strategic Business Objective of sparking Competition, is to focus on Talent Acquisition and Retention.

+ Again, our pre-launch Fashion Industry Research had revealed that some of the most talented Fashion Designers and Industry Professionals educated in COLORADO move to the Fashion Capitals (of New York, London, Paris and Milan) to pursue their careers upon graduation.

+ In order disrupt and break this trend, we needed to give our best Fashion Industry Talent a reaon to stay and work in COLORADO, and so therefore why CFW was built on the MISSION of ‘Building an Economically Sustainable and Highly Respected Fashion Industry in, and for, the great State of Colorado’.

CFW’S FIRST OBSERVED PROBLEM: THE LACK OF ACCESS TO CAPITAL TO EMERGING FASHION DESIGNERS AND BUSINESSES:

+ One of CFW’s immediate observations as an organization was the prevailing lack of access to Capital—especially Financial Capital, for Top Emerging Regional Designers and Fashion Brands outside of the established Fashion Capital like New York City.

[ SUMMER OF 2014 ]

+ Using the poor access to Funding as a cue, we quickly began to pivot our entire Business Model to accurately reflect the reality of our discovery by organizing a Fashion Fundraiser in July 2014 at the McNichols Building in Downtown Denver.

+ We then took the insights from that Summer Fashion Fundraiser Event to inform our next steps as an organization.

[ FALL OF 2014 ]

+ In the Fall of 2014, we re-organized our week long Fashion Show presentations into mini presentations in collaboration with local partners and sponsors across Downtown Denver with one big Runway Presentation at the Four Seasons Hotel Denver on Saturday of our usual October 1-7 annual calendar.

[ FALL 2014-FALL 2015 ]

+ Combining the feedback from our Summer Fashion Fundraiser and the Fall 2014 Presentations would help dictate the next right move for our organization. We used the next several months to access and analyse key industry trends across the Fashion Industry and decided to make a full pivot away from the week long Runway Presentation common to all Fashion Weeks.

+ In full Pivot mode as an organization, we dedicated the 2015 Season to visitng regional Fashion Markets around the Rocky Mountain and West Coast Regions to learn and observe how those markets are navigating the Businesses of Fashion.

+ After 12-months removed from our last sold out Fashion Runway Show at the elegant Four Seasons Hotel Denver, we had gathered enough information to dicate how to effectively position our business.

INTRODUCING CO FASHION WEEK (COFW)…//

+ One of the striking realizations from our 12-month or research with peppered with periodic travels to neighboring Fashion Markets in Arizona, Nevada and California was how ‘Digital’ everything was becoming.

+ We used this new marketing trend as a clue to create a dedicated ‘Digital-First’ outfit for our Business. Our answer was ‘CO FASHION WEEK (COFW): our official digital-first arm of Business of Fashion Venture Studio.

+ CFW initiates a new Venture Studio vision: a ‘Traveling Fashion Consulting Service’ and takes on it’s first clients Arizona and Georgia, respectively

+ During October 1-7, 2016, we will return to the mini-Fashion Show Presentations we’d tried and test with partners and sponsors across Downtown Denver in 2014, by bringing one of it’s first ‘Traveling Fashion Consulting Service’ client to Colorado as part of these presentations.

+ This very intimate style Presentations allowed us to curate a more bonding experience between the Designers and Audience, something our bigger format Runway Presentations robbed us of. .

+ CFW tests its newest Venture Studio Vision: ‘On Becoming-a-Professional MODEL: an intensive professional Model Training program.

+ CFW Introduces a ‘FASHION is ART’ series with an intimate Fashion, Art and Dance Showcase.

+ CFW reimagines its ‘Traveling Fashion Consulting Service’ into a ‘1:1 FASHION TOUR: SEASON ONE’ vision dedicated to partnering with Fashion Designers, Brands and Industry Talent to build and grow their businesses.

+ CFW launched the ‘FASHION TOUR’ by taking a trip to New York Fashion Week (NYFW) as a Venture Studion to attend a KAIMIN Fashion Show during the Februrary Presentations.

+ During it’s first Tour, CFW is rcruited by a recent contestant of America’s Next Top Model to help with the Personal Branding Strategy—and travels to Atlanta and later to Los Angeles, the contestants home state to work with 1:1 with their new client.

+ CFW takes on it’s third ‘FASHION TOUR’ Client in the Northeast, USA, from August 2019-Febururay 2020.

+ CFW reimagines the ‘1:1 FASHION TOUR’ vision into ‘CO FASHION TOUR’ (C/o/F/T) as it’s official 10th Anniversary Global Growth Initiative.

+ CFW introduces its ‘GLOBAL FASHION ACADEMIES’ program acceptes its’s Student in August of 2021 into the program.

+ CFW raises a small round of capital from a private Venture to invest in it’s first portfolio company collection to entitled: { ‘MUSLIN: The Environmental Sustainability Collection’ }. On November 1, 2022, CFW recruits a Tailor while on tour in the northeast to hand profuce the samples for the collection.

+ CFW introduces its ‘GLOBAL APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM’: a 1:1 Business of Fashion Training and Talent Development Program for career aspiring Talent seeking to work in the Fashion Industry.

+ January 2022: CFW accepts it’s first candidate into the ‘Global Apprenticeship Program’

+ Feb 2022: CFW travels to NYFW with it’s two current candidates from both the ‘Global Apprenticeship Program’ and ‘Global Fashion Academies’ Program in tow. The objective was to have candidates experience the Fashion Industry from a Fashion Capital like NYC’s perspective.

+ October, 2022: CFW-ON-TOUR arrives in Central Mass, New England and helps launch a brand new Fashion Week hitting the City of Boston.

+ November 1, 2022: one year to the date of the collection’s pre-production launch, CFW receives the samples from the tailor.

+ November 7, 2022: CFW-ON-TOUR 2022 lands at Clark University to present a collection from it’s portfolio: [ ‘TIMELESS: The Collection(s) By J/K’ }.

+ November 18, 2022: CFW-ON-TOUR 2022 lands in NYC to present { ‘TIME/LESS: The Collection(s) by J/K } as part of Material Liberation Vol 2 Fashion Show.

+ CFW-ON-TOUR organizes it’s first llve Model Fittings in August of 2013 for its’s ‘MUSLIN’ Collection.

+ March-April 2023: CFW-ON-TOUR assumes a position on the Planning and Leadership Committee for the Material Liberation Vol 3 Fashion Show to be held in Fall 2023.

+ May 2023: CFW-ON-TOUR 2023 is invited by a newly Formed Fashion Club at MIT to Train Models for it’s inaugural Fashion Show in Cambridge, MA.

+Summer 2023: CFW-ON-TOUR 2023 assumes the role of Consultant and Business of Fashion Coach for the participating Designers in Material Liberation Vol 3 Fashion Show.

+ October 2023: CFW-ON-TOUR 2023 returns to NYC to attend the Material Liberation Vol. 3 Fashion Show.

+ November 15, 2023: CFW-ON-TOUR 2023 attends ‘The Fashion Law Africa Summit’ in New York City to learn about IP Protection in the Fashion Space.

+ November 19, 2023: CFW-ON-TOUR 2023 organizes it’s first Live Model Fitting Photo Shoot in Cambridge, MA.
